Station 3 Works Hard on a Hot Day PDF Print E-mail

On July 6th at 1122hrs, The Day Crew was dispatched on Box 1221 for a house fire in the area of 80 White Hollow Road.  The alarm initially called for Engine 32 (Capt. Al Johnson) to transfer to Station 2 (Smethport) for stand by.  After several units failed to respond on the second alarm, Chief 12 (Gallup) requested they upgrade to the scene, along with Tanker 35.

Engine 32 arrived, took the second due Engine assignment and set up a rural water supply in the pond next to the residence.  The crew then split, stretching an attack line to the second floor to extinguish the rapidly advancing fire while the other half laddered the building, completed horizontal and vertical ventilation, utility control, completed a search for victims, and opened up on the second floor.  The crew also managed to salvage many of the home-owners valuables.

Crews remained on scene for the duration of the lengthy overhaul process in the sweltering heat.  Once the fire was officially out the crew enjoyed a long trip home in the very un-air-conditioned cab of Engine 32.

Units on Scene:  Engines 121, 21, 23, 32;  Rescues 123, 26, 14; Tankers 22, 35; Utilities 25, 152
Command:  Chief 12 (Gallup)
