As demolition of the former Canoe Place Inn buildings has started to allow for the construction of the new Sheetz, the Port Allegany Fire Department was given access to each of the buildings for the purpose of holding training exercises. Hoseline advancement, search and rescue, forcible entry, and laddering drills were held yesterday. Today, the Star Hose Company members were joined by an engine crew from Smethport Fire Department to do run-ins, including drills integrating multiple hoselines and search crews. Several RIT exercises were held, simulating a firefighter MAYDAY and rescue. More training will be taking place all week, as Sheetz has delayed complete demolition for an entire week to allow us more time. The officers and members of the Star Hose Company No. 1 would like to thank the kind people of Sheetz, Inc. for their cooperation and generosity in affording us this once-in-a-lifetime training opportunity.
