Tuesday, 12 January 2010

Less than 30 minutes after returning to service from the stand by in Roulette, Star Hose Company units were back on the street when Box 0331 was dispatched for a chimney fire at 47 Depot Street in Turtlepoint.  Engine 33 (Lt. A. Johnson) responded quickly with 4, followed by Engine 32 (Capt. M. Johnson) with 5, Rescue 38 (FF E. Button) with 2, and Tanker 35 with 2.  Chief 310 (F. Roys) arrived, established Command, and reported a working fire in the walls on the 1st floor.

Engine 33 arrived, laying a supply line from Champlin Hill Road, and stretched a line to the first floor.  The crew found a small fire in the living room which was quickly extinguished.  The crew was then split, with half opening up on Division 1, and the other half repositioning the line to Division 2 and checking for extension.  Engine 32 arrived and picked up 33’s LDH at Champlin Hill Rd. and secured a water supply before sending manpower to the scene to check for extension in the attic and assist with overhaul.  Engine 46-2 (Roulette) arrived and was ordered by Command to throw ladders to the roof to sweep the chimney.  The fire was placed under control and units began returning in about 40 minutes.  All units from Station 3 were in service within an hour.  A big thanks goes out to Engine 21 for making two trips over the hills from Smethport to stand by at our station tonight.

Units on Scene: Engines 33, 32, 41, 46-2; Rescue 38; Tankers 35, 183, 46-5; Ambulance MA-3A
Command: Chief 310 (F. Roys)
