First Due JOB on Cady Hollow PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 25 August 2009
At 0227hrs the Star Hose Company, along with Station 2 (Smethport), Station 4 (Eldred Boro), Station 44 (Austin), and Station 46 (Roulette) were dispatched to the Cady Hollow Road on Box 0372 for a "Camper on fire, endangering a garage."  Chief 320 (Roys) responded at the time of dispatch and was advised that a caller reported a tow-behind camper on fire just a few feet away from a large garage.  In just over 1 minute, Engine 33 (Capt. Roys), Engine 32 (Capt. Johnson), and Tanker 35 (FF Brundage) responded with 12 firefighters. After the more than 6 mile response, Chief 320 arrived on scene and established "Cady Hollow Command", reporting a camper and a pile of debris on fire against a 50 x 25 foot garage.  Engine 33 and Engine 32 arrived, stretched a handline and began gaining access to the garage.  After forcing a man-door, crews encountered heavy smoke and fire inside the garage.  Command relayed the working fire report and requested mutual aid companies establish a water supply at the Cady Hollow bridge.  Given the large size of the structure and the heavy amount of fire, Engine 33's crew then stretched a 2 1/2 inch handline while the crew from Engine 32 began forcing the large main doors of the garage to gain better access to the fire.  Once access was made through the main garage door, the fire was quickly knocked down.  Command reported the fire under control at 0250hrs and held the fire to the companies from Station 3 and Engines 41 and 46-2 to assist with overhaul.  Crews operated on scene for just over an hour before returning to service.

Command:  Chief 320 (Roys)

Units on Scene:  Engines 32, 33, 41, 46-2; Rescue 38; Tankers 35, 44-5, 46-5; Utility 34
