Fire Prevention Week is the longest running public health and safety observance on record.  Each year Fire Prevention Week is observed on the Sunday through Saturday period in which October 9 falls.  The Star Hose Company #1 holds a number of educational programs for pre-school and school aged children each year during Fire Prevention Week.

Regularly schedule events include visits to the Elementary School, area daycare centers and local housing facilities by the PAFD.  Additionally, kindergarteners from the Port Allegany Elementary come visit the fire station.
